INVO is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated part time Social Worker. The Social Worker will play a crucial role in providing services to support students' emotional, social, and mental health needs, and will collaborate with families, educators, and community agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to student well-being. This position will involve working across multiple schools within the district, addressing both individual and systemic challenges that may impede students’ academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling services to students to address social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
- Conduct assessments of students’ social and emotional needs through interviews, observations, and consultations with teachers, families, and school staff.
- Develop and implement intervention strategies and programs to support students facing challenges such as bullying, family issues, trauma, mental health concerns, and crisis situations.
- Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and other support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students requiring special education services.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community agencies to ensure students have access to external resources and services, including mental health, housing, and family support services.
- Facilitate family engagement and provide education or resources to help parents and caregivers support their child’s social and emotional development.
- Lead and participate in student intervention teams, including providing recommendations for appropriate interventions and services.
- Participate in and support the development of school-based social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and mental health awareness initiatives.
- Assist in crisis intervention, including risk assessments for suicide or self-harm, and provide ongoing support for students in need of emergency interventions.
- Maintain confidential, accurate, and up-to-date records of student interactions and interventions in accordance with school district policies and state regulations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with trends and best practices in school social work and mental health services.
- Collaborate with school staff to create and maintain a positive, supportive school climate that promotes student well-being and achievement.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
- Valid New Jersey School Social Worker Certification.
- Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New Jersey (preferred).
- Experience working in a school setting or with children and adolescents, preferably in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of child development, mental health interventions, and trauma-informed care practices.
- Familiarity with special education laws and processes, including IEP development and compliance.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, including those with various social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
